Overview

TA provides full-service engineering to some of the world’s most recognizable brands. For over 40 years, we have served clients from local plant-based projects to large turnkey corporate initiatives.

The Civil/Structural Engineer will support clients in the building products and pulp & paper industries. This role will involve collaboration with mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines on some projects. This role is based in our
Marietta office and will require some travel to client sites. 

 

 

Responsibilities

Common types of structure design include concrete foundations (spread footings, slabs-on-grade, mats, tank containments, auger piles, drilled piles), pavements (rigid and flexible), concrete & masonry walls, structural steel frames for buildings, equipment supports, pipe supports & racks, worker access platforms, stairs & ladders, light gauge steel framing & trusses, bar joists & decking systems, worker guarding & fall protection systems, and hoisting systems (monorails, bridge cranes, jib cranes, winches).

 

  • Conducting field visits & working with clients to assess conditions, take measurements, and develop designs/solutions to client needs.
  • Working with equipment vendors to develop designs and directing the work of CAD designers.
  • Providing project status and delivering design packages.
  • Developing proposals, structural engineering calculations & reports, finite element models, and for-construction drawings.
  • Establishing & maintaining project budgets.
  • Conducting visual inspections of designed projects under construction to verify compliance with construction plans.
  • Developing appropriate loading conditions based on ASCE 7, engineering judgment, and vendor information for gravity, wind, seismic, snow, and vibratory loadings.

Qualifications

  • BSCE from ABET accredited university preferred.
  • Must have a Professional Engineering license, preferably in GA and/or AL.
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Must be able to travel up to 15%.
  • Project experience should include structural steel design, concrete foundation design, and building envelope expertise (roofing, insulation, gravity and lateral load analysis), as well as rotating element design and geotech.
  • Proficient knowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations & national standards for civil engineering materials (concrete, steel, masonry, aluminum).

Essential Functions

  • A working understanding of the building envelope for weather tightness and thermal insulation.
  • Field work is typically in industrial facilities and heights are sometimes required.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Must be able to take measurements in a building and produce sketches of steel layout with connections.
  • There are occasions where individual will have to walk near the edge of building.
  • Some projects may require work near hazardous chemicals.
  • Must be capable of walking throughout a large manufacturing plant during the day for meetings and other required duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and motor vehicle report (MVR) according to company and client policies.
