  • Overview

    As a member of an engineering team, this resource will function as a hands-on engineer providing functional controls expertise for project design, construction, commissioning, and start-up as related to industrial controls for clients in the food & beverage industry for our Columbus, OH office. Work will be performed at our client site locations, both in the Columbus metro area and at other clients locations (primarily OH and KY).

     

    Position involves travel; overnight travel will be primarily during start-up phase.

    Responsibilities

    The Electrical Controls Engineer will use engineering principles to design and/or improve the client's manufacturing controls systems. Will safely follow client defined control standards and scope, and maintain communication and interface with appropriate client contacts. Will support all aspects of electrical controls project execution including control system design, PLC and HMI programming, project documentation, and site start-up support of integrated systems. Will be responsible for re-writing, upgrading and standardizing client controls systems. Responsible for putting together bid packages and designing and writing the scope of work for contractors to follow. Will create final documentation packages of as-built drawings.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or related preferred
    • Experience designing industrial control systems (VFD’s, motors, etc.) and modifying and troubleshooting PLC/HMI’s
    • Electrical/Control panel design using AutoCAD
    • Selection and specification of field devices and sensors
    • PLC experience utilizing Rockwell Automation. ControlLogix/CompactLogix, PLC 5 and SLC required,
    • HMI development
    • Rockwell Variable Speed Drive experience
    • Proven Network and Communications experience
    • Client support and interface skills
    • Strong analytical, communication (oral & written) and troubleshooting skills   
    • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines
    • Field commissioning and start-up experience
    • Food and/or beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical or other process-related industry preferred
    • Basic AutoCAD knowledge
    • Experience Level:  5-12 years

    Essential Functions

    • Field work is required
    • Must be able to climb ladders, walk over crossovers, and access equipment
    • Must be able to climb a caged personnel ladder
    • Must be capable of walking the distance from parking lot to designated job area (may be 1 mile+), in addition to walking throughout a large manufacturing plant during course of day for required meetings and other required duties.
