Seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to support clients in the food and beverage, pulp and paper and chemical/pharmaceutical industries. Candidate will interface with mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines on some projects. Preferred work experience is 5 to 10 years but candidates with more will be considered. Position requires up to 25% travel.
Must be proficient in structural design and assessment of steel and concrete structures, including frames, plates, slabs, foundations and lifting systems. Common types of structures being designed include concrete foundations (spread footings, slabs-on-grade, mats, tank containments, auger piles, drilled piles), pavements (rigid and flexible), concrete and masonry walls, structural steel frames for buildings, equipment supports, pipe supports and racks, worker access platforms, stairs and ladders, light gauge steel framing and trusses, bar joists and decking systems, worker guarding and fall protection systems, and hoisting systems (monorails, bridge cranes, jib cranes, winches). A working understanding of the building envelope for weather tightness and thermal insulation is preferred.
BSCE from ABET accredited university required
Must have a Professional Engineering license by examination in at least two states, preferably GA and FL
Candidate will conduct field visits to assess conditions, take measurements and develop solutions to client needs. Will develop structural engineering calculations and reports, finite element models, and for-construction drawings. Candidate will interface with clients to review needs, develop designs, provide project status, and deliver design packages. Candidate will develop proposals and establish and maintain project budgets for civil engineering and design support. Candidate will interact with other engineering discipline and equipment vendors to develop designs, and will direct the work of CAD designers. Will conduct visual inspections of designed projects under construction to verify compliance with construction plans.
Proficient knowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations and national standards for civil engineering materials (concrete, steel, masonry, aluminum) is required. Candidate must develop appropriate loading conditions based on ASCE 7, engineering judgment, and vendor information for gravity, wind, seismic, snow and vibratory loadings. Experience with regulatory policies and requirements for chemical storage and piping systems (ASME, API, DEP, EPA) is preferred. Experience with jurisdictional requirements for zoning and permitting, plans examination, and DOT roadways and railways is preferred.
Basic AutoCAD proficiency for drawing edits and manipulation required.
Proficiency with a civil/structural finite element analysis software package (RAM Elements, StaadPro or similar) is required.
