Technical Associates is a multi-disciplined, full-service engineering organization.  For over 30 years, we provide all aspects of project scope from front-end engineering to construction support and start-up for a wide-range of industrial clients.  We provide engineering services to clients in the food & beverage, pulp & paper, pharmaceutical, chemical and other consumer-related products industries. 


We are currently seeking a Project Manager for our Charlotte area branch. The Charlotte project managers work out their home and at their client’s site.  Candidates must be self starting, motivated professionals that can maintain focus and deliver results whether working from home or at a client’s site.  Experience managing remotely is a plus.  Candidates should have a minimum of ten years of experience in industrial engineering project execution and a strong working knowledge of manufacturing and process plant environments. Foods experience a strong plus. BS Degree or relevant related experience required.


  • Work safely and follow all TA and client safety rules.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Working with clients, develop scope, cost and timing of engineering services required.  Then after a purchase order is issued execute the scope within the budget and timeframe.
  • Assemble the project team needed for the scope, working with TA branch managers, secure the resources required (eng / design/ structural / electrical / mechanical).  Develop these resources as you work with various individuals.
  • Projects vary in scope and may include; pre-engineering, detailed engineering, construction management, commissioning and start-up support or may include all the phases.
  • Projects can include mechanical and electrical / controls, the project manager must be able to lead all facets of the project effectively
  • Understand project's scope, schedule, and budgetary restraints and work within them, assisting in the enforcement of restraints. Participate in and lead internal design reviews including interrelationships of other disciplines. Follow established project controls procedures. Prepare formal project control forms, i.e. transmittals, drawing requests, etc. Communicate directly with the client in all aspects of the project.
  • Typical project size is $30k - $1M.  Projects may include design and construction of a new facility, process upgrade, packaging upgrade, piping, utilities, etc. 
  • Much field work is required. It could involve climbing ladders, climbing onto platforms, climbing stairs, crawling around  machinery and walking for extended periods of time.


  • Electrical, mechanical, or process background.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand PID drawings, plant layouts, project scope documents and equipment specifications.
  • Capable of determining total design requirements for the purpose of estimating and managing projects including schedules and budgets, accurately tracks and records cost spent on various project tasks.
  • Responsible for creation of project scope documents; must be able to define scope changes with client.
  • Construction management experience.
  • Track record of developing technical resources, candidates should have engineering / personnel management experience.
  • Production and maintenance management a plus.
  • Scheduling software experience a plus.
  • AutoCAD and 3-D drafting skills are a plus.
  • Travel comes in waves, during commissioning and construction support it can be extensive.  Some weekends and Holidays (when factories are shut-down) are required at times to execute the work.  On average travel is 25% but is 100%, 0%, 50% at times.
